Prindi

For the third time already the Ministry of the Environment is going to determine the most environment-friendly organisations. The objective of the competition is to acknowledge the efforts and investments of Estonian enterprises and organisations in reducing pollution.

The competition also aims at promoting clean production and sustainable development.

All organisations operating in Estonia are welcome to participate in the competition of environment-friendly organisations. The only condition is that during the evaluation period (2003 to 1st half of 2005) the organisation may not be judicially convicted of environmental offences.

An organisation can apply for the award in several categories at the same time. Competition information and documents are available on the competition website at:  http://www.envir.ee/ippc/lingid.htm

As a result of the first competition in 2002 AS Kunda Nordic Cement was awarded for purposeful implementation of the environmental management system and Optiroc AS was awarded for improving the production process. In 2004 the winners were Eesti Energia AS (energy company), AS Rakvere Lihakombinaat (meat processing plant) and AS Harku Karjäär (Harku quarry).

Participation documents will be evaluated in November and the results of the competition will be announced at the award ceremony in December this year. The winners will be entitled to participate in the European environmental awards competition.

Participants have two months (1 September to 1 November 2005) to fill in participation documents. Completed documents should be sent to the Ministry of the Environment at Narva mnt 7a, 15172 Tallinn, with a keyword “Competition” or sent by e-mail: .
