Olavi Tammemäe will became the Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Environment

Vice Minister Olavi Tammemäe starts working at the Ministry of the Environment in January 1, 2004.
Mr Olavi Tammemäe has graduated from the University of Tartu in 1977 in geology. In the ending year Mr Tammemäe defended his master`s degree on technical science at the Tallinn Technical University. “ I am glad that a person who knows very well the administrative area of the Ministry of the Environment starts working with us and helps us to achieve formerly set goals in the European Union,” said Mr Villu Reiljan, Minister of the Environment.
Mr Olavi Tammemäe worked at the Ministry of the Environment during the time period of 1991 to 1998 as the Director General of the Environmental Expertise Department and the Director General of the Nature Conservation Department. Since 1998, he has been directing the Estonian Institute for Sustainable Development, which is the Stockholm Environment Institute Tallinn Centre. Mr Tammemäe has published many articles in professional publications concerning environmental management systems, environmental auditing, and environmental risks.
The working spheres of the vice minister are developing principles of ecological tax reform, promoting nature conservation system and intensifying co-operation with non-governmental organizations.
Mr Olavi Tammemäe is not with any political party. According to the Public Service Act, the Vice Minister is appointed for the Minister`s tenure. The salary of the Vice Minister is 0,8 of the Minister`s salary.
