Data gathered from Estonian fishes has been compiled into a book

Tomorrow, on Thursday, at 13.00 o`clock in the hall of the Ministry of the Environment will be presented a book named Fishes of Estonia. The data from more than a hundred years lasted history of studying fishes has been drawn together into one book. The results of Estonian areas` studies have been compared to the data of neighbouring areas.
The book talks about the Estonian water bodies as habitats for fishes and the forming of fish fauna in history. Fish and lamprey species` intraspecific groupments found in Estonian areas, their spread, reproduction and nutrition ecology, migrations, parasites and diseases of fishes, biochemical and genetic characters, the fluctuation of population, protection, also the state of the stock of industrial fish and the stock use are being covered.
The summary of fish fauna science study, that is gathered in the book, is unique in the whole Baltic Sea region.
The editors are Mr Evald Ojaveer, Mr Ervin Pihu and Mr Toomas Saat. The capacity of the book is 416 pages; the writing was published by the Estonian Academy Publishers. There are 28 authors, mainly from the Estonian Marine Institute of the University of Tartu and the Estonian Agricultural University.
