The behaviour of coastal sea is predictable
|
|
The scientists of Denmark and Estonia have developed a simple method for predicting the changes in the state of sea.
With the help of the model it is easy to show how pollution spreads and how the state of ecosystem will form in different sea regions.
Considering development scenarios the model allows to foretell how much will human activity influence the coastal sea. Several different future predictions have been observed – for example what would happen if there were no pollution or how would the sea condition change if polluting would continue at the same level as ten years ago, in another words if we would increase polluting by half.
The development of the model was one part of the Estonian-Danish project on intensifying the monitoring of the state of the environment of Estonian coastal sea that started in 2000. The project was financed by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency and the Ministry of the Environment of Estonia.
The project will be finished on Thursday, December 11, at 12.00 o`clock in the hall of the Ministry of the Environment, where the model will also be presented.
In particular, the model was used to research how would the state of Narva bay alter in case of different development scenarios.
