On Wednesday, November 26, at 9 o`clock, will be held a seminar on Nature Diversity Convention and information network in the main building`s assembly hall of the Estonian Agricultural University (Kreutzwaldi 64, Tartu).
As one of the themes the idea of composing a red book for Estonian habitat types is to be discussed.
According to Ms Anneli Palo, Researcher of the Institute of Environmental Protection of the EAU, there have been composed red books of plant communities or habitat types similarly to endangered species.
“The increasing human activity and altering of land use places in danger such communities and habitats that were dominant a century ago,” said Ms Palo.
Differently from species, in case of habitats we can talk of restoration. The habitat types can alter during land use and natural process, in which connection surface of an habitat type can reduce, but doesn`t need to if it generates or is generated elsewhere.
At tomorrow seminar, the hot spots of nature diversity and to those releated requirements in agriculture, and national traditions tied to sustainable use of forest are introduced. Also, the international network of biological diversity and Estonian participation in it are presented at the seminar.
The seminar is free of charge and open for all persons interested in nature, science and environment protection.
