The Environmental Inspectorate and the Police Board start fighting against illegal forest cutting together

Mr. Ain Purga, Director General of the Environmental Inspectorate, and Mr. Robert Andropov, Director General of the Police Board, today signed a co-operation agreement with a purpose to intensify and co-ordinate both parties` activity on prevention, obstruction and pre-court procedure of illegal forest cutting and timber thefts.

The working group of the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Environmental Inspectorate and The Police Board, that has been working together since April, has stated, that co-operation between different agencies must be substantially improved in order to fight forest violations and timber thefts.

The agreement concretized objectives and determined long-term dates.

According to the agreement, parties will react immediately on information about possible offences, giving back information about planned activity and dates to the original source.

The parties will organize working groups not later than April 1st 2004 for devising methodical recommenations for pre-court procedure on forest offences.

The Environmental Inspectorate binds to arrange regional practical procedure excercises for policemen proceeding forest offences. Date, amount and themes of schooling and ecercises will be determined by March 1st 2004 at the latest.

The local structural units of the Environmental Inspectorate and the police bureaus will sign a protocol for ensuring harmonized fulfilment of the objectives arising from this agreement and, appoint persons responsible for co-operation, contact persons and the precise transmission of mutual information.
