On Monday, May 12, at 1 a.m., Minister of the Environment Villu Reiljan will officially open this year’s Nature Conservation Month "Know Your Homeland’s Nature" in the hall of the Ministry of the Environment.
Our nature is very rich in species and highly diverse but how much do we actually know about it and can we distinguish its values?
The main idea of this year’s Nature Conservation Month is to bring nature closer to the people and attract interest to recognizing, understanding, and preserving of nature.
During the Nature Conservation Month governmental and non-governmental organizations of Estonia will organize numerous activities for introducing nature. Those will include bee (joint working camps) in protected areas, hikes, excursions, quizzes for introducing our natural history and monuments, as well as seminars and exhibitions.
At the opening event of the Nature Conservation Month, Mr. Reiljan will also award this year’s Eerik Kumari Nature Conservation Award. An exhibition of Mr. Tiit Leito’s photos will also be opened in the same venue.
The Nature Conservation Month will begin on the Nature Conservation Day which is celebrated on Monday, May 11, and will last until the International Environment Day on June 5.
