First payment of ISPA funds for environmental sector project in Estonia transferred

Today, the first payment was transferred in Estoniawithin the framework of European Union ISPA funding: to the contractor responsible for construction and services related to construction of access road and leachate pipeline for the new Tallinn landfill.
The payment was transferred to a consortium of FKSM Ltd. and Teede REV2.
According to mr. Rainer Rohesalu, Head of Strategy and Planning Department of the Ministry of the Environment, the sum transferred was EUR 535 985, making approximately 15% of the total related to the construction contract.
As a result of the works undertaken, heavy vehicles moving to the Jõelähtme (Tallinn) landfill will be separated from the Tallinn - St. Petersburg road and leadingof leachate from the new landfill through Tallinn sewage network to the Tallinn waste water treatment plant will be secured. Another objective of the project is connecting of the sewage systems of the Loo and Iru settlements with the Tallinn town sewage system in order to secure effective treatment of the waste water. The taking into use of the Jõelähtme landfill will in its turn provide the necessary preconditions for closing and remediation of the currently used Pääsküla landfill.
The contract related to the above activities includes construction design, construction of the collector (appr. 11.4 kms) and two pumping stations for leading the leachate to the Tallinn waste water treatment plant, construction of sewage pipeline (appr. 3.7 kms) and pumping stations for leading sewage from the Loo and Iru settlements to the Tallinn waste water treatment plant, construction of access road to the landfill and of related junctions with the St. Petersburg road.
As a result of tender process, the contractor is a consortium of FKSM Ltd. and Teede
REV2. The contracting party is the Tallinn Town Government.
The total volume of the contract is 64.31 million Estonian kroon (equivalent to some 4 mln EUR), 47.64 mln kroon of which (75%) is co-financed by the European Union within the framework of its ISPA programme.
