Assistant Minister appointed to Ministry of Environment

Today, 14 June, the Estonian government appointed Rita Annus Assistant Minister to the Ministry of the Environment.

The proposal to appoint Annus was made by the Minister of the Environment, Jaanus Tamkivi. “Since we have such a broad range of responsibilities and cover a lot of different areas, I felt we needed an Assistant Minister,” Tamkivi explained. “Rita will be taking care of the ‘green’ side of things: conservation, forestry and fishing issues. And it makes sense that she is, since her previous position at the Land Board means she’s well up to speed with these areas.”

Tamkivi based his selection of Annus first and foremost on her many years of experience in the Ministry of the Environment system. She has worked in the ministry’s legal office as a lawyer, managed both the legal office and department (1996-2003) and been both a managerial adviser and Acting Deputy Director-General at the Land Board. She graduated from the University of Tartu in law in 1996 and from the Central European University in environmental science and policy in 2001.

Annus does not sit on any company boards, is not a business operator and holds no other paid positions. She will take up her post as Assistant Minister next Monday, 18 June.
