The Ministry of the Environment announces the third international photo contest “The Baltic Sea is Worth Protection.” The aim of the contest is to draw the attention of the people living on the coast of the Baltic Sea to the importance of environmental protection and to find new talents whose photos reflect both positive and negative ties between people and nature. “Earlier similar contests have been popular and given numerous good photos,” says Carmen Raudsepp, senior specialist at the Environmental Education Bureau. “The third contest also expects participants from among professional and amateur photographers, as well as from beginners, who through their recorded moments draw attention to the vulnerability of the environment and the need for protecting our beautiful nature.” The contest is organised by the Ministry of the Environment of Estonia, the Ministry of the Environment of Finland and the Committee for Natural Resource Utilisation, Nature Protection and Ecological Safety of St. Petersburg. Photos can already be sent. The final term of the contest is 31 August this year. After that an Estonian evaluation work group will start its work choosing ten photos from each category to be sent to the final contest in Helsinki. At the same time, the winners of the special award from the Ministry of the Environment in three categories will also be selected. The best photographers are selected by an international panel of judges at the end of September in Helsinki. The winners are announced in the middle of October at the opening of the photo exhibition in Tallinn. The photos sent to the international contest will be exhibited in St. Petersburg and Helsinki in addition to Tallinn. The award fund of the contest of this year is more than EEK 100,000.
