Minister for the Environment steps down
|
|
On
6 October the Minister for the Environment, Villu Reiljan, submitted
his resignation to the Prime Minister. The minister based his
decision to step down on European political culture.
Everyone
is innocent until they are proven guilty,” said Minister Reiljan.
“At the moment there is very little information about the
accusations that may be levelled against the Land Board. I would
stress that in stepping down I am doing so on the basis of political
culture and etiquette and it is not meant to be taken as an
indication that the exchange of nature conservation land was in any
way inappropriate.”
Reiljan
added: “The Land Board was guided in its land exchange activities
by the Nature Conservation Act and the decisions of the government.
What assessment these transactions will in fact be given will become
clear during the course of the investigation. The Ministry of the
Environment will assist the investigation in every way it can."
