Today, 19 January,
saw the completion of the first stage of the water management project of
Põltsamaa, co-funded by the Cohesion Fund (CF), as a result of which the
availability of connecting to the public water supply and sewerage system was
created for 497 registered immovables.
17.73 km of water
pipelines and 19.06 km of sewerage pipelines were renovated and constructed,
0.97km of pressure sewer pipelines were constructed, three new waste water pump
rooms were installed, the waste water pump room for the right bank was renewed
and the town’s water treatment plant was renovated and expanded as a result of
the project. Whereas only 57% of the residential immovables in Põltsamaa had
access to public water supply and sewerage before the launch of this project,
this level has reached 98% now.
However, this has not concluded the water management project in Põltsamaa. A
second stage of the project where the existing out-of-date public water supply
and sewerage system pipelines will be renovated in order to provide drinking
water with an even higher quality to the town’s residents and to prevent the
flow of waste water from the obsolete sewerage pipelines into ground water and
surface water.
This project was launched on 18 December 2008 when the Environmental Investment
Centre approved an application for funding by Põltsamaa Varahalduse OÜ titled
“The Water Project of the Town of Põltsamaa and its Surroundings”. The total
cost of the project is 7.076 million euros, most of which (77.46%) is funded by
the CF. The project will be carried out in two stages, and the cost of the
first stage was 3.6 million euros. The project is co-funded by the town of
Põltsamaa, the Põltsamaa rural municipality and Põltsamaa Varahalduse OÜ.
