The Government approved a draft legislation
today transferring 5,326 m
2 of State land to several local
governments for building light traffic roads.
The rural municipalities of Risti, Sangaste, Pärsti, Tartu,
Jõhvi and Vastseliina and the city of Kohtla-Järve received a total of 43,789 m2
land from the State, 5,326 m2 of which are meant for the
construction of bicycle roads.
Together with the Government’s decision of today, local
municipalities have received a total of 419,768 m2 of land during
2010-2012 for constructing light traffic roads.
According to the Roads Act, road management on local roads
is performed by local governments whose duties include the establishment of
conditions for safe traffic on roads. Therefore, constructing and maintaining
light traffic roads are the responsibility of local government units.
The Land Board has contributed to the preparation of decisions on the
transfer of land to local governments.
