Estonia and Moldova to begin developing cooperation in the field of environmental protection

Today, 19 October, Minister of the Environment Keit Pentus and Minister of the Environment of Moldova Gheorghe Şalaru signed a cooperation agreement between the two countries in the field of environmental protection.
“In its own way, the agreement entered today is recognition of the protection of our environment. Our experiences are valued and others want to learn from them,” noted Minister of the Environment Keit Pentus. She explained that cooperation in the field of environmental protection will begin to take place primarily in such fields as the reduction of air pollution, environmental monitoring, environmental impact assessment, sustainable development, and the protection and preservation of biodiversity.
Pursuant to the agreement, the parties promote the conclusion and development of direct contacts between the institutions, organisations and companies of both countries dealing in environmental protection. For example, an exchange will begin of the knowledge of the specialists of both countries in the field of environmental education and science. In addition, a join workgroups will be set-up to resolve various problems. Various cooperation programmes and projects will be started together. In addition, an exchange of information will begin regarding the methods of protection of the environment and nature and the efficient use of natural resources, reduction of the generation of waste and waste processing.
The cooperation between the countries takes place with Estonia's development cooperation framework. So far, Estonia has mainly been a development partner in the field of environmental protection for Georgia and Ukraine.
