An unofficial meeting of the EU Environmental Council is taking place in Hungary

Prindi
Starting from Thursday, an unofficial meeting of the ministers of the environment is taking place from March 24–26, this time focusing on protection of water resources and sustainable water management.

The topics of the meeting will go on with the priorities of two of the former presidency periods, those of Spain and Belgium.

The water policy interest of Hungary as the holder of the EU presidency is to increase the connection between the most important water management topics and the policies of the EU’s other areas, especially the sustainable development strategy, cohesion policy, and transport, energy and agricultural policies.

Topics like climate change and water policy are planned to be discussed at the meeting, as well as integrated control of extreme hydrological events, efficient use of natural resources, the role of ecosystem services, importance of international cooperation, water in other EU policies and the future of European water policy.

Estonia will be represented at the meeting by Secretary General of the Ministry of the Environment Rita Annus, Deputy Secretary General Allan Gromov and Kersti Liivorg, a specialist from the EU and International Co-operation Department.
