“Although we initially received 12 applications, the need for support of which significantly exceeded the budget of this round, four applications remained after the evaluations,” project coordinator Ööle Jaanson said. “The reasons why the rest of the projects were not funded mostly involve problems related to environmental impact assessment or state support, as well as incompatibility of the planned actions with the aim of the measure which was, first and foremost, to establish fish ways.” One of the supported applications was the project by NPO Vastse-Roosa Külaselts, under which a 140 meter long fish way will be constructed to the barrage of Vaste-Roosa old water mill. The Vastse-Roosa barrage, located on Vaidva River, is approximately 100 meters long and consists of a surface barrage reinforced with quarry stone masonry and a spillway with a 13 meter wide opening. The fish way to be constructed is a bypass, that is, a nature-identical artificial bed with a slight slope, leading the fish away from the barrage. All funding decisions are available at the webpage of the EIC. The Environmental Investment Centre that started work in May 2000 is the leading guide for environmental support and investments. The EIC directs the money received from environmental use to the development of environmental projects, fulfils the tasks of a final beneficiary of environmental projects of the EU Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund and the Cohesion Fund, and implements the green investment plan (sales of the CO2 quota and mediation of support). Also, a loan can be applied for from EIC to apply for a loan for development of environmental projects. |
