The Government approved amendments to the Radiation Act

Prindi
On 30 April, the Government of the Republic approved the amendment, by which new requirements of the European Union Euratom Directive will be included in the Radiation Act. The main aim of this amendment is to take over the European Union Council Directive on the supervision and control of shipments of radioactive waste and nuclear spent fuel.

Arising from this, the concept of "nuclear spent fuel" and the procedure for its safe transport, which had been unregulated in national legislation, shall be provided in the Act. National regulation of standards laid down for spent fuel transport means a higher level of security and safety as it provides the obligation of notification of organising transport and the basis for consent or refusal of transport.

Some of the legislative provisions taken over from the Directive shall be provided in the Act that amends the Radiation Act and some by amending the Government of the Republic Regulation "The specifications for processing the documents for the import, export or transit of radioactive waste based on the countries of origin and destination of the waste" of 8 July 2004.
