On 29 January, the Minister of the Environment Jaanus Tamkivi appointed Andres Onemar as Director General of the Environmental Board. The proposal to appoint Onemar as Director General was made by the Competition and Evaluation Committee of Higher State Public Servants at the State Chancellery, which chose Onemar from among 12 candidates.
“Andres Onemar has long-term experience in management, he knows our system, people and work areas, and is able to start managing the Environmental Board effectively from the first day in office,” the Minister of the Environment Jaanus Tamkivi said.
Before assuming the post of the Director General of the Environmental Board, Andres Onemar worked as the Development Director of the State Forest Management Centre. He was born on 20 February 1956 and graduated from Tallinn Secondary School No. 21 and the Estonian Agricultural Academy in the field of forest management. Onemar has worked as a forester in Putkaste, Hiiumaa, and as chief county forester of Hiiumaa. He has been the head co-ordinator of the Estonian Forestry Development Programme, Project Manager and Director General of the State Forest Management Centre establishment project.
The Environmental Board, based on the environmental services of the Ministry of the Environment, National Nature Protection Centre and the Radiation Centre, will commence work on 1 February. 416 people will be working in the Board, most of whom will be located in six regions across Estonia. The head office of the Environmental Board is located at Narva mnt 7a, Tallinn (in the offices of the former National Nature Protection Centre), i.e. in the same building as the Ministry of the Environment.
