Härämäe hiking trail

The restored great crested newt breeding ponds at Härämäe can now be accessed via a hiking trail beginning at Hallimäe. The landscape surrounding the trail is very diverse – a characteristic feature of Haanja. The trail begins at Hallimäe, where the master of the Maasikmäe Farm, Kalju Sepas, has founded an arboretum with ca 250 tree and bush species. Then, the trail follows the Hallimäe slope down into the valley, where beavers have established their reign. Before reaching Härämäe, the hikers can explore a diverse variety of woods. Once at Härämäe, the great crested newt breeding ponds come into view. The trail is equipped with information stands and smaller boards providing information on the various sights.
