Information stands and exhibition

Prindi

For the purpose of introducing this LIFE-Nature project and its actions, the project sites were provided with information stands. These provide information on the diverse biota of ponds, the great crested newt, its distribution and habitats as well as the European Union’s LIFE-Nature programme and its support to the project on great crested newt protection. There are two types of information stands. The ones installed near nature conservation centres are not related to any specific pond areas and focus rather on the factors threatening the great crested newt and on the opportunities for protecting the species, including help from landowners. The stands located nearby restored breeding ponds, on the other hand, provide specific descriptions of the surroundings.

The centre of the Põlva-Valga-Võru region of the State Nature Conservation Centre, situated at Otepää, hosts a permanent exhibition on the history, geology, water bodies, plants and animals of the Otepää Nature Park. It features separate stands on amphibians and the LIFE-Nature project “Protection of Triturus Cristatus in the Eastern Baltic Region”. After all, the great crested newt and the common spadefoot form part of valuable natural objects, whose protection is the nature park’s aim and whose living conditions are improved with support from the European Union.
