The proposal to appoint Annus was made by Minister of the Environment Jaanus Tamkivi. “I chose Rita because she has many years of experience working within the system here at the ministry and because the environment is an area she knows very well,” the minister explained. Annus has been appointed as Chancellor to the Ministry of the Environment for a period of five years from 21 June 2008 to 20 June 2013. She will take charge of its structural units, manage the ministry’s affairs and coordinate the work of the state agencies which come under its jurisdiction. The government appointed Annus Assistant Minister to the Ministry of the Environment on 14 June 2007. She has worked in the ministry’s legal office as a lawyer, managed both the legal office and department (1996-2003) and been both a managerial adviser and Acting Deputy Director-General at the Land Board.
