On Thursday 19 June the Estonian government appointed Rita Annus Chancellor of the Ministry of the Environment, thereby releasing her from her duties as the ministry’s Assistant Minister.
The proposal to appoint Annus was made by Minister of the Environment Jaanus Tamkivi. “I chose Rita because she has many years of experience working within the system here at the ministry and because the environment is an area she knows very well,” the minister explained.
Annus has been appointed as Chancellor to the Ministry of the Environment for a period of five years from 21 June 2008 to 20 June 2013. She will take charge of its structural units, manage the ministry’s affairs and coordinate the work of the state agencies which come under its jurisdiction.
The government appointed Annus Assistant Minister to the Ministry of the Environment on 14 June 2007. She has worked in the ministry’s legal office as a lawyer, managed both the legal office and department (1996-2003) and been both a managerial adviser and Acting Deputy Director-General at the Land Board. She graduated from the University of Tartu in law in 1996 and from the Central European University in environmental science and policy in 2001.
